My Book Publishing Journey, related to the adoption experience of his family
May 11, 2026
STAYER CENTER Rick Parks was seized by inspirtation to write a novelized version of his family's experiences with adoption seventeen years ago. It included the real story of his family, along with a largely fictional and parellel account of his oldest son's birth father, who was a special operations soldier in the Air Force. Having no idea where to even start on having a book published, Rick conected to a writers group that helped guide him through all phases of writing and publishing; a complete rewite turning the book into a memoir, countless editing sessions, introduction to the ins-and-outs of publishing, building connections to the publishing world, and finally signing with a publisher. The process was side-tracked along the way as Rick took on greater responsibilities in his career, as well as the global pandemic, which contibuted to the long journey to be published. If you ever thought you should write a book and have it published, this program will give you insight on what's involved. |
